Scouting Scholarship

Scouting, on all levels, has always been an important Legion program. Kansas Legion Posts sponsor some fifty-five Scout Troops and Explorer Posts, with expenditures in excess of $10,540, involving over 835 scouts. However, many more scouts benefit annually from The American Legion through direct and indirect aid and leadership that are unreported.

The American Legion Life Insurance Trust Fund provides for an $10,000 National Scholarship to be awarded to the Eagle Scout who is selected "The American Legion Scout of the Year". The individual selected will be named by the National Americanism Commission during the annual National Spring Meetings. Three runner-up scholarships, at $2,500 each have been added to the scholarship awards. The Department of Kansas also gives a $500 scholarship to the Kansas Scout of the Year.

The scholarship may be used to attend a school selected by the student, providing it is state-accredited, above the high school level, and within the continental limits of the United States, except in the case where the student may be from a possession of the United States, in which case he can select a school in that possession or in the Continental United States.
