Junior High Elective Course Descriptions

These are the classes we will be offering:

7th & 8th Art
Ringtones
7th & 8th Band
S.T.E.M.
J.H. Project History

Project: History is a course that utilizes Project Based Learning to teach 20th century American History. Students get to create a variety of projects over different time periods in 20th century American History.

7th grade ART is encouraged for all students.  It is a beginning art class; no prior experience is needed. You will learn how to draw objects 3-dimensionally, learn to shade and shadow objects, learn to mix all colors of paint using only the three primary colors, create clay projects that are glazed and functional, and much more!  This class has no right or wrong answers and no tests!  If you are wanting to discover your creative side and improve on your skills this class is for you.  It is the best place to start for a strong foundation in art.

In 8th grade ART you will continue to learn new techniques in drawing, painting and ceramics.  We will experiment with a wide variety of drawing mediums including charcoal, pastel, ink, and watercolor as well as painting and clay.   Previously taken 7th grade ART is beneficial but not required for this class.  In this class you will be exposed to manly styles and methods to art.  Very hands on as most day are spent creating while improving skills.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math is what STEM stands for. This class is built to allow students to explore these fields. In STEM class, students will learn about the scientific method, engineering process, and use these methods along side of technology and math to solve real world problems.

Some of the activities we've done this year include STEM careers research, bridge building, egg drops, speaker making, rocket design and launching, and other activities. There is also some math that is integrated in to each project to drive the scientific process.
