Workplace Experience Field Trip

On April 25th, Emma Peschel and Shelby Downard took a field trip to Via Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. They are both in Mrs. Anderson's Workplace Experience class that MHS offers. This class allows them to job shadow on a regular basis in our local community, and it allowed them to take this field trip.

Emma Peschel -  We observed the physical therapists while they were working. We were able to ask whatever questions we had, and they explained what they were doing and what they do on a daily basis. This field trip was very beneficial because I was able to see a different setting that physical therapists work in.

This trip taught me that there are many options for physical therapy schooling and there will be a huge need for new physical therapists.

The Workplace Experience class, that allowed me to go on this trip, has helped me learn appropriate behaviors for my job. I already knew what I wanted to do before this class but it was nice to see more of what they do.

After job shadowing I still want to go into physical therapy.

Shelby Downard - The trip was very beneficial for me. I job shadowed Maarit on Wednesday, she was one of the physical therapist working that day. I learned a lot from her because she broke everything we did down so that I understood it. I helped her walk patients, do exercises and assist her in any way she needed me. My favorite part was hitting a balloon back and forth with one of the patients while they balanced.

Workplace Experience class has given me the opportunity to see the field I am going into. I job shadow once a week. The class has also given me the skills I need to be successful in the workforce.

I had an idea before I entered the class that physical therapy is what I wanted to do. Workplace Experience gave me the opportunity to go shadow and intern and see if it was going to be a good fit for me.

After the trip, I do still want to be a physical therapist. It is a great field to go into and I just want to help people.
