Attention USD 364 Families: Excessive Heat Update 8/21/23 - 8:45pm JH/HS -The JH/HS building is experiencing mechanical issues with the chiller that provides air to a portion of the facility. As we work through the situation we wanted to inform you of our plan for the near future in regard to classes. We will run classes through the normal schedule until those that do not have air reach 80 degrees. At this time, classes will move to areas of the building that have units functioning at normal capacity. MES - The elementary building is functioning normally and schedules at this time will remain the same. As the morning progresses we will take wet bulb readings to know the outside heat index and when to halt any outdoor activities. Bus Transportation - We continue to urge all bus riders to bring a water bottle - fill it before leaving the house - and refill it before leaving school. Parents are encouraged to pick up students from school. Please communicate any changes with your student's school building. Athletics - Coaches should be communicating practice changes. Questions - please contact the JH/HS office Please continue to communicate with your student about the importance of staying out of the heat and continue to stay hydrated. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding during this time. The district appreciates your continued support.

Attention USD 364 Families: Excessive Heat Update: At this time, there will be no outside activities due to the extreme heat. We will continue to evaluate the temperature in the morning to make a proper decision for morning activities. Our local Dollar General donated water for our bus riders to have during their afternoon route today. A big Bulldog thanks to store management for reaching out and providing a helping hand. Please continue to send water bottles with your student - we will refill them for the afternoon bus route. The JH/HS chiller is currently having difficulties and not running at full capacity. Minor adjustments have been made with some classroom locations as well as within the cafeteria to provide students with a cooler lunch location. We are working through the process and will provide updates as needed. Please continue to communicate with your student about the importance of staying out of the heat and continuing to stay hydrated.

Attention USD 364 Families: Due to the EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING this week that is in effect until 10 PM on Wednesday, the district will be using the following precautions: Parents are encouraged to pick up students from school. Please communicate any changes with your student's school building. The district will do its best to negate the heat on the bus - however, our larger buses do not have air conditioning and the smaller route buses only have ac in the front. Please have your student carry a water bottle with them to school. Fill it up in the morning before leaving for school. The school will have them fill their bottle before leaving in the afternoon. The district is working on having water available for student riders - but due to availability, there is no guarantee that we can have enough water at all times. STUDENTS NOT RIDING BUSES SHOULD BRING WATER BOTTLES AS WELL TO HAVE FOR THE WALK HOME AFTER SCHOOL. Outdoor classes and recess: No outside activity if the heating index is above 120. Outside activities will be limited or modified if the temperature/heat index is between 100-119. The activity should not exceed 15 minutes, should not exceed 25% vigorous activity, and should be followed by enforced hydration. The principal has the right to modify or cancel outdoor activities. Sports practices will be adjusted in accordance with the KSHSAA recommendations.
