The district would like to give a big thanks to our local and county law enforcement agencies. It has been a difficult past two days - local PD immediately came to our assistance yesterday - Police Chief Simpson, Sherriff Ackermann and officer Escalante attended last nights meeting to provide guidance and support for the BOE. Both groups provided a presence today for the wonderful Veterans Day Program as well as throughout the school day! Very fortunate and extremely thankful to both. Go Bulldogs!

(cont.) At this time, I am not going to go into detail about yesterday's events. As many of you know, with this type of situation there are many items shared that are not factual. At the appropriate time, the events will be discussed. I want to make sure that the authorities have time to complete their review at all levels. In closing, the leadership team is committed to providing a system that is one of transparency and solutions centered. I can assure you throughout the next days, weeks, and months we will be evaluating, analyzing, and discussing the current practices and processes for school clubs and organizations. The district will be seeking input in the near future from building and district site councils and leadership teams which are comprised of community members, parents, and staff. We are committed to providing a safe environment for all students while maintaining an environment that promotes learning. School events should not be a distraction to the learning environment. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked through the process and please know that we will continue to take steps to improve in these areas going forward. Have a great weekend, Darren Schroeder

Good evening Bulldog Family, (this will be two posts due to the character limit of the platform) As the school week comes to a close, I would like to provide an update concerning yesterday's safety situation. First, we have been notified that at this point there was not a direct threat to the school. The situation will continue to be monitored as it works its way through the proper authority levels. Second, a thank you to the parents for working through the situation with us in an understanding and patient manner. This type of situation is extremely difficult - your assistance and support was appreciated. (Next thread)

The Board of Education met this afternoon in regard to the student safety issue that occurred at the Jr/Sr High School today. After consulting with both local and county law enforcement - school will be in session tomorrow. With that being said, if parents decided to have students not attend, absences will be excused and students will not be penalized. There will be police presence throughout the entire day at the school. Tomorrow's celebration, Veteran's Day Program, is still being held and the school is excited for the event. I would like to provide some clarification to a couple of items from today. 1. MES was not in a lockdown today. I have attached the school emergency protocol so everyone has an understanding of the terminology and its meaning. 2. As a district, we are focused at identifying any procedures or practices that are in place or not in place that need to be adjusted or implemented to assist with proper communication and protocols. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time as we continue to focus on the safety of all students. Darren Schroeder

Emergency
Earlier today a message was released concerning a safety situation at the JR/SR High School. At this time, the district is continuing to be both vigilant and working with police in regard to the situation. The Board of Education will be meeting later this afternoon and communication will be shared afterwards concerning possible next steps moving forward. The districts focus is student safety and learning and will continue to be moving forward. We appreciate your patience as we navigate through this process. Darren Schroeder

There were student safety concerns brought to our attention this morning. We have thoroughly investigated, brought in police, and determined that our school is safe. This remains our number one priority. School will remain open this afternoon. Parents are welcome to check students out at their discretion. Students will be allowed to come back for practices or games. The police will remain in the building for the rest of the day. Our elementary school has no safety concerns at this time. Thank you.
